Burrowing Owl Merlot 1997
Stacey's dad surprises us again with another bottle from his collection. This Burrowing Owl Merlot 1997 we found after finishing the Burrowing Owl's 2004 Pinot Noir.
This wine has a "closed" intense flavour. A short finish, but a glorious experience on the palate. Spice on the nose, good tannins but very smooth.
Stacey felt that this wine overpowered her taste buds after having a very good Pinot Noir (hey, we were having fun raiding the cellar though), and I don't disagree. Next time she suggests we would have this as an "only" red. Given that there is a very limited supply left, that will probably happen.
Quinta Ferreira Chardonnay 2007
Quinta Ferreira are quickly gaining a lot of fans, and BC Wine Lover is sitting up and taking notice. The Black Sage Bench winery just south of Oliver has produced a very inviting Chardonnay that is ready to pour now.
It has a lovely, rich, gold colour. This is oaked Chardonnay that is very mild. The oak adds to the creamy, caramely palate, and doesn't dominate the flavour. The acidity is kept nicely in check, giving it a very smooth, long finish.
In the glass it has lovely long legs.

Very dark cocoa, nice legs. Hint of vanilla on the nose, not too fruity. Beautifully balanced tannins - "hits all four corners". Gorgeous silky finish, no bitterness. Definitely something to drink now, but probably would keep for a special occasion.
